Scientists: Mayflies may amplify oxygen and algae problems, but don’t blame the bugs
Here's a very good article by Mr. Ken Kreiger, Research Associate, Water Quality Laboratory, Heidelberg College, Tiffin Ohio.
Mayflies and Lake Erie
Also, while you're on the OSU Sea Grant page, check out the information on Stone Laboratory, located on Gibraltar Island which is right next to South Bass Island (Put-In-Bay). Tours are available and recommended. A great place to learn about Lake Erie. Did you
know, for example, that Lake Erie, which has less water than any of the
other Great Lakes, has more fish than the other four Great Lakes--COMBINED?
The mayfly is just part of the reason. Thanks to my former neighbor, Roger Long, for helping me with this info.
The Department of Entomology at Purdue University has their "Mayfly Central" web site. The program is a multidimensional research and education program dedicated to the pursuit and dissemination of knowledge about mayflies, or the insect order Ephemeroptera. Good for the person wanting serious species information cause there isn't any pictures on this site.

As I come up with more information on our friendly little flyers, I'll post it here.
